Domestic abuse drama Take My Eyes and Civil War feature Soldiers Of Salamina led the nominees with nine and eight nods, respectively, for Spain's annual Goya Awards, to be held January 31.

Antonio Mercero's surprise nominee 4th Floor (Planta Cuarta) will compete for best film against Iciar Bollain's Eyes (Te Doy Mis Ojos), David Trueba's Soldiers (Soldados De Salamina) and Isabel Coixet's English-language My Life Without Me.

Bollain, Trueba and Coixet will also compete for best director against Cesc Gay for In The City (En La Ciudad). Best new director nominees include David Serrano for box office hit Football Days (Dias De Futbol), Jaime Rosales for The Hours Of The Day (Las Horas Del Dia), Angeles Gonzalez Sinde for Sleeping Luck (La Suerte Dormida) and Pablo Berger for Torremolinos 73.

Eyes, City, Hours and Torremolinos scored best original script nods, while best adapted script nominations included Soldiers, My Life, The Weakness Of The Bolshevik (La Flaqueza Del Bolchevique) and The Prodigious Light (La Luz Prodigiosa).

Best actor nods went to Eyes' Luis Tosar, Torremolinos' Javier Camara, Football's Ernesto Alterio and Prodigious Light's Alfredo Landa. Soldiers' Ariadna Gil earned a best actress nomination alongside Eyes' Laia Marull, Adriana Ozores for Sleeping Luck and Canadian Sarah Polley for My Life Without Me.

Best new actor and actress nods went to: Football's Fernando Tejero and Nathalie Poza, Eyes' Elisabet Gelabert, Victor Clavijo for Silvia's Gift (El Regalo De Silvia), Oscar Jaenada for November (Noviembre), Juan Sanz for Life Marks (La Vida Mancha), Veronica Sanchez for South From Granada (Al Sur De Granada) and Maria Valverde for Bolshevik.

The leading nominees in technical categories were Vicente Aranda's period piece Carmen and comic book adaptation Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure (Mortadelo & Filemon: La Gran Aventura).

Best European film nominees are Dogville, La Fleur Du Mal, Dreamers and Good Bye, Lenin!. Best Spanish-language foreign film nods went to Historias Minimas, Suite Habana, El Misterio Del Trinidad and El Viaje Hacia El Mar, while veteran Argentinean actor Hector Alterio will receive this year's Goya of Honour.

Best documentary film nominees include Julio Medem's controversial La Pelota Vasca: La Piel Contra La Pared, Suite Havana, Poligono Sur and Un Instante En La Vida Ajena. Best animated feature nods went to El Cid La Leyenda, El Embrujo Del Sur and Los Reyes Magos.
