Sony Pictures Classics (SPC)has acquired North American rights to Vicente Aranda's Juana La Loca (Mad Love), the historic story of Queen Joan Of Castille and her love for thedecadent Archduke Of Austria Philip The Handsome. The film is the Spanishsubmission for the foreign language Academy Award and was recently nominatedfor 12 Goya nominations including Best picture and director.

Juana La Loca stars Pilar Lopez, who is also Goya nominated andwon the best actress prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival. It is producedby Enrique Cerezo and backed by Sogepaq, the same company which also soldGuillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone to SPC.

Juana La Loca is the first movie directed by Aranda to secure UStheatrical distribution since Lovers in 1992.
