Kim Ki-duk's Spring,Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring was named the surprise winner of the 41st Grand Bell Awards, SouthKorea's oldest awards ceremony. This marks the second major local honour for the film after it won BestPicture at the rival Blue Dragon Awards held last December.

The Korea-Germanco-production beat out popular favorite and Cannes Grand Prix winner Old Boy, which still managed to collect fiveawards for directing (Park Chan-wook), lead actor (Choi Min-shik), musicalscore, lighting, and editing.

In the pastseveral years, organizers have been trying to repair the event's reputationfollowing heavy viewer criticism and accusations of corruption in the late1990s. The event's nominationprocess has now been revamped to allow ordinary citizens to contribute.
