German rights trading company Telepool has acquired free-TV rights for German-speaking Switzerland to a package of 80 films from Warner Bros including The Matrix, Eyes Wide Shut, Three Kings and You've Got Mail.
The deal also includes several television series including The Sopranos, Jack & Jill and upcoming series The Fugitive.
The deal is a major coup for Telepool, owned by Germany's state broadcasters, which competes with deep-pocketed German independents such as Kinowelt, which has German rights to the Warner product under a multiyear output deal. Telepool also has a 10-year output deal with DreamWorks for free TV rights in the German-speaking territories.
Telepool recently linked up with Germany's Advanced Medien in a bid to finance features in the $45m budget range. Advanced acquired a 40% stake in Telepool subsidiary Europool as part of the deal.
