THINKFilm, the new North American distributor founded by Jeff Sackman, has acquired all North American rights to The Last Kiss (L'Ultimo Baccio), Gabriele Muccino's award-winning romantic comedy which shared the world cinema audience award at the Sundance Film Festival last month.

The company, under distribution chief Mark Urman, plans to release the film this summer.

The film stars Stefano Accorsi, Giovana Mezzogiorno and Stefania Sandrelli and won five David Di Donatello Awards in Italy including Best Director. It was produced by Domenico Procacci for Fandango and distributed in Italy by Medusa.

Urman, along with THINKFilm vice president of acquisitions and business affairs Randy Manis, negotiated the deal with Paola Corvino of Intramovies and CAA.

"I'm happy that this deal rounds up the western hemisphere countries where the film will be shown theatrically," said Corvino in a statement, "something that is not easy to achieve nowadays with an independent film."

The Last Kiss joins a bustling theatrical releasing slate being assembled by THINKFilm including Laurent Cantet's Time Out (L'Emploi Du Temps), Bart Freundlich's World Traveler, Peter Care's The Dangerous Lives Of Altar Boys, Ismail Merchant's The Mystic Masseur, Peter Mattei's Love In The Time Of Money and Gus Van Sant's Gerry.
