Erik Nietzsche - The Early Years starts shooting today in Denmark with newdirector Jacob Thuesen at the helm after previously attached Lone Scherfigdropped out of the project several months ago.

Zentropa isproducing the $5.2m (Euros 4.1m) feature with co-producers Memfis Film, DOR Film, Lucky Red and Tju-Bang Film.

Lars von Trier wrotethe script based on his years as a young snotty punk at the Danish Film School,but von Trier uses the alias Erik Nietzsche to tell a funny and unusually selfironic story about a young film director who gives up his ideals in search offame.

Actor and stand-upcomedian Jonatan Spang tackles his first leading part as Nietzche with strongsupport from Jens Albinus, Troels Lyby, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, David Dencik andSoren Pilmark.

Thuesen previouslydirected Accused and has also workedas an editor. His producers on Erik Nietzscheare Marie Gade and Sisse Graum Jorgensen. The film has already been pre-sold(through Trust) to Lucky Red for Italy and Les Films du Losange in France.

Scherfig left the project to focus on more international films.
