Pop stars Gary Kemp and Melanie Blatt have joined TV actor Alan Davies in UK comedy Dog Eat Dog.

The FilmFour-backed production has just started shooting for Tiger Aspect Pictures and Shona Productions for six weeks in and around London. Kemp and Blatt have starred in The Krays and Honest respectively, while Davies is known in the UK for TV series Jonathan Creek.

Feature newcomer Moody Shoaibi is directing the film about four aspiring DJs who come up against a local crime lord in their bid to make some fast money.

The picture also stars Mark Tonderai, who co-wrote the script with Shoaibi, Nathan Constance, David Oyelowo and John Thomson.

Amanda Davis, whose credits include Kevin And Perry Go Large and Dancer, is producing. Elinor Day, deputy head of production at FilmFour, is overseeing the project for the feature arm of broadcaster Channel 4.

"Dog Eat Dog is one of the freshest and funniest scripts I've read," Day commented. "Moody and Mark have a wonderful gift for writing cool urban characters with a genuinely funny slant. We're confident that the film will have mainstream appeal."
