Swedish director Tomas Alfredson’s feature adaptation of John Le Carre’s novel fits in with the Scandinavian theme of the 38th edition of the festival.

The 38th Ghent International Film Festival is to open with Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on Oct 11.

The film had its world premiere in Venice. Starway Film Distribution will release the film in Belgium in the autumn.

This year’s edition of the Ghent Film Festival will shine the spotlight on Scandinavia and suspense, with a special exhibition - Ingmar Bergman: Truth and Lies – and retrospective on Bergman.

Pernilla August’s Beyond (Sweden/Finland), Frit Fald by Heidi Maria Faisst (Denmark) and The Mountain by Ole Giæver (Norway) will compete for the main prize, whilst the jury will include Norwegians Erik Poppe and Bent Hamer.

The 38th Ghent Film Festival runs October 11-22. The complete programme will be announced on September 28.
