Cannes Directors Fortnighttitle Corneliu Porumboiu's A Fost, Sau N-A Fost' will open the fifth Transylvania International Film Festival(TIFF) on June 2.

The film is one of twoRomanian titles which will rush home from Cannes to compete for the grand prize at the ten-dayfestival in Cluj Napoca, Romania.

Catalin Mitulescu's debut film Cum Mi-Am PetrecutSfarsitul Lumii, in UnCertain Regard, will also be among the 12 films competing for the Trofeul Transilvania and $12,687(Euros 10,000), among other awards.

Some films in competitionhave already distinguished themselves at other festivals. Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen's A Soap won the Silver Bear Jury Grand Prix in Berlin earlier this year. Gela Babluani's film 13(Tzameti)won the De Laurentiis Award for best first film in Venice last year and Sundance grand jury prize for worldcinema - dramatic. And Gyorgy Palfi'sTaxidermia,which is screening in Un Certain Regard, took top honours at Hungarian FilmWeekin February.

The grand jury is made up ofIcelandic Film Centre director Laufey Gudjonsdottir, Romanian actress Anamaria Marinca, Romania director Radu Mihaileanu,Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo,and British film historian and programmer David Robinson.

Other guests include VanessaRedgrave, Michael Glawogger,Balthasar Kormakur, andAndrei Ujica.

Among the festival's otherevents, Romanian Days will take place June 8-11, during which organisers willscreen new Romanian features, shorts and documentaries.
