New Black Films is partnering with Pure Grass Films (backed by Endemol) to launch a cross-platform project entitled Shape Shifter. Regional screen agency Northern Film & Media has invested in the project.
The partners will develop supernatural thriller potential franchise Shape Shifter, which will comprise a feature film, motion comic and novel.
Newcastle- and London-based New Black will develop the feature with London-based Pure Grass Films. Pure Grass is also working on the motion comic, and are partnering with Hodder & Stoughton to develop the novel.
Northern Film & Media has invested script development money in the feature film. NF&M previously invested in New Black’s football documentary One Night In Turin.
The story is about a sleepy Northumberland village where a trainee reporter searches for heir missing colleague, discovering an ancient Viking blood curse.
New Black and Pure Grass are currently casting for the feature and will shoot Shape Shifter on location in the North East in 2011.
Northern Film & Media is supported by the ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13.
