FirstLight, the UK Film Council's youth filmmaking scheme, has started a newcompetition in the North East. The Futures in Motion competition will be opento 170 schools and 43 youth groups.

Studentswill submit a short film proposal about how Lottery funding has impacted theircommunity. The winning group will work with film and advertising professionalsto produce their film.

DirectorRidley Scott helped launch the competition and said, "I would certainly hopethat the Futures in motion Competition can offer many opportunities toyoungsters to express themselves in filmmaking and they will be inspired tocontribute and will learn from their experiences."
