Francois Ozon's Swimming Pool made a splash in the UK this week. A strong average of over $5,000 per location saw the director give its distributor UGC Films another hit following last year's 8 Women.
That film was the then-fledgling UGC's second release and grossed only slightly less then Swimming Pool taking $177,871 (£113,126) from 40 sites over its launch weekend (Nov 29-Dec 1, 2002). 8 Women ended up with a final UK take of $823,066 (£523,470).
The top of the chart remained unchanged, despite the big new release from UIP: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life. The sequel was unable to make a strong impact in the UK following a disappointing US take and finished its launch with less than half the launch weekend of its predecessor. Cradle Of Life's weekend figures included $407,371 (£259,088) of previews from 336 sites.
