UniversalPictures has entered into a first look production arrangement withdirector/writer Darren Aronofsky and his producer Eric Watson and theircompany Protozoa Pictures. The duo will also develop and produce feature filmsfor Universal's sister companies Focus Features and Rogue Pictures.

Aronofsky credits include PI and Requiem For A Dream. He is currently in post production on The Fountain, which he wrote anddirected and was produced by Eric Watson, Arnon Milchan and Iain Smith for Warner Bros. and New Regency. Thefilm, due to be released later this year, stars Hugh Jackman,Rachel Weisz and Ellyn Burstyn, about one man'sthousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves.

Other Aronofskyand Watson projects in various stages of development include Jim Uhl's Flicker anadaptation of the Theodore Rozak horror novel about acatholic sect's plot to use Hollywood to usher in the apocalypse; Song Of Kali, the Dan Simmons novel,adapted by Lucas Susman, a thriller set in the slumsof Calcutta and Black Flies, a coming-of-agestory about a young man who enlists as a New York City paramedic and is foreverchanged by the experience, Todd Kessler is adapting the screenplay.

Aronofsky and Watson also have television projects thatthey are working on including Riverview,a HBO pilot written by John McLaughlin about a haunted New York City housing project.
