Itmay not have landed a foreign-language Oscar nomination but Quebecois title C.R.A.Z.Y.has more than compensated at home.

TheFrench-language drama, the story of a young man's acceptance of hishomosexuality in a loving if oppressively heterosexual family, swept Canada'sGenie Awards on Monday, winning ten prizes out of 12 nominations, includingbest motion picture for Pierre Even and Jean-Marc Vallee, best director forVallee, best original screenplay for Vallee and collaborator Francois Boulay,whose life inspired the story, and best actor - a category for which the filmhad two nominations.

Theprize went not to the star of the film, newcomer Marc Andre Grondin, who playedthe young man, but veteran Michel Cote in what many consider a supporting roleas the patriarch.

DeepaMehta's Water, the nextmost-nominated title, managed to eke three prizes out of its nine nominations:the actress prize for young lead Seema Biswas, cinematography for GilesNuttgens and original score for Mychael Danna.

AtomEgoyan won the Genie for Best Adapted Screenplay for Where The Truth Lies, adapted from the novel by Rupert Holmes. DenisBernard won best supporting actor for his role in L'Audition. Best Documentary kudos went to Scaredsacred by Velcrow Ripper.

Thebalance of C.R.A.Z.Y.'s prizeswere best supporting actress for Danielle Proulx, art direction for PatriceVermette, editing for Paul Jutras, costume design for Ginette Magny and overallsound and sound editing. As previously announced, C.R.A.Z.Y. producers Even and Vallee were presented with theGolden Reel Award for the highest-grossing Canadian film of 2005.
