Pedro Almodovar's Volver will open the 37th International FilmFestival of India Goa which runs from Nov 23 to Dec 3. Alejandro GonzalezInarritu's Babel is the closingnight film.

Films from 40 countries willbe screened in the "Cinema Of The World" section and the festival will featureretrospectives of the work of actor Javier Bardem and director Rolf de Heer.

The themes of this year'sfestival are "Diversity Of Indian Cinema" and "The Whole World Is One Family"with Shashi Kapoor named as the chief guest at the opening ceremony and AparnaSen as the chief guest at the closing.

The competitive sectioncompetes for the Golden Peacock for best film and the Silver Peacock for mostpromising director as well as a special jury award for the director of a filmfor individual artistic contribution. De Heer is heading the jury which alsoincludes Jahnu Barua from India and Oliver Assayas from France. The IndianPanorama jury is headed by Saeed Mirza and the non-feature jury is headed byRaja Mitra.

Also expected to attend isSir Richard Attenborough whose Gandhi is being screened as a tribute to the Satyagraha movement.
