Emmy Award winning writer Ann Peacock has signed on to pen Walden Media's forthcoming adaptation of C S Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Peacock, who won an Emmy for her adaptation of Ernest J. Gaines' A Lesson Before Dying for HBO, will write the screenplay for the live action feature which is expected to go into production next year.

Walden Media chief executive Cary Granat said in a statement that Peacock was a writer of 'lyrical sensibility and emotional intelligence who can deliver a faithful adaptation of C S Lewis' beloved original.'

Last December Walden announced that they had optioned C S Lewis' entire seven-book fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia in a deal with rights holder, The C S Lewis Company.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is chronologically the second book in the series, but the best known. The story tells of four children who are sent to the country during World War II and discover the magic wardrobe that leads them to the mystical world of Narnia.
