Alan Bates will receive a career achievement award and a nine-film retrospective at the Nortel Networks Palm Springs International Film Festival next January (Jan 10-20, 2002).

Entitled King Of Parts: The Film Characters of Alan Bates, the retrospective will be kicked off by a Technicolor Dye Transfer restored print of Women In Love (1969) followed by King Of Hearts (1966), Quartet (1981), An Englishman Abroad (1983), Far From The Madding Crowd (1967), A Kind Of Loving (1962), Georgy Girl (1966), Nijinsky (1980) and The Fixer (1968).

Bates, who can currently be seen in Robert Altman's Gosford Park, has other film credits including The Go-between (1971), Zorba The Greek (1964), The Entertainer (1960), An Unmarried Woman (1978) and The Rose (1979). He was Oscar nominated for The Fixer. He will next be seen in Mark Pellington's The Mothman Prophecies with Richard Gere and in Phil Alden Robinson's The Sum Of All Fears with Ben Affleck.
