French romantic comedy Je Reste! cycled to success on a small eight screen release in Belgium last weekend. The film claimed $37,042 (Euros 31,856) for a strong $4,630 average for Alternative Films - which was the best screen average for any opener this week and the third best of the weekend behind chart leaders American Pie: The Wedding and The Italian Job.

Je Reste! tells the story of a woman (Sophie Marceau), who after several years seeing to the upbringing of her son and putting up with her demanding husbands' (Vincent Perez) obsessive routine reaches breaking point.

Elsewhere in the chart Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men received a strong launch at 45 locations for a $185,421 opening weekend - $215,763 including previews - and fourth position in the chart. The comedy drama starring Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman, has struggled to make much impact in many other European countries.
