The British Film Institute's Sutherland Trophy went to French film Carnages by Delphine Gleize as this year's London Film Festival wound to a close.

Other awards saw the FIPRESCI prize going to The Angel On The Right and the Satyajit Ray Award go to Rachida. Thespian X, by Gerald McMorrow, won the short film prize.

The festival's 46th edition racked up an attendance of 110,000. The most popular gala screenings were Curtis Hanson's 8 Mile, Shekhar Kapur's The Four Feathers, Roman Polanski's The Pianist, Brett Morgan's The Kid Stays In The Picture, Metin Huseyin's Anita And Me and Peter Mullan's The Magdalene Sisters. Other highlights included City Of God, Bowling For Columbine and The Quiet American.

'We are extremely proud of the Festival programme and overall this has been a very special year," said artistic director Sandra Hebron. "The quality of the films on offer, the range of galas and special events, and the illuminating participation of the visiting film-makers has made the 46th Regus London Film Festival such a great success.'

Opening with Dirty Pretty Things and closing with The Heart Of Me, the festival was attended by filmmakers and actors including John Malkovich, Daniel Day-Lewis, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Helena Bonham-Carter, Atom Egoyan, Curtis Hanson, Audrey Tautou and Phillip Noyce.
