Die Another Day stormed the international charts over the weekend, grossing $25m from five territories for 20th Century Fox.

Not only did the film claim the top spot in each market where it opened, it also claimed the biggest Bond opening in every territory in the process.

The first Bond film handled by Fox under its distribution deal with MGM launched in the UK on Wednesday November 20 (to celebrate its status as the twentieth official Bond title) The film achieved a massive five-day gross of $14.4m (£9.1m) from 430 venues for an immense site average of $33,546.

The UK performance was particularly strong over the weekend (Friday Nov 22-Sunday Nov 24) when Die Another Day claimed $10.9m (£6.9m). Playing on 827 prints this gave the Bond film a three-day screen average of $13,172.

In comparison, although Warner Bros' Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets scored a slightly stronger three-day take of $11.6m (£7.3m) from its 525 sites, the wizard's huge screen count of 1,275 meant it was second to Bond with an average of $9,057.

In France Die Another Day was the fifth biggest opening of the year garnering 1,266,041 admissions and grossing $7.1m (Euros 7.15m) from 713 screens in its first five days. This result showed admissions were some 20% higher for the latest in the franchise than for the last film, 1999's The World Is Not Enough.

A mammoth weekend in Spain saw the action adventure take $2.7m from 327 screens for an average of $8,179 per screen. This was 80% higher than that for The World Is Not Enough and puts Die Another Day in the country's top 20 openings of all time.

Poland saw the film take a weekend gross of $328,380 (ZLO 1.35m). Playing at 50 screens it scored an average of $6,568 and bested The World Is Not Enough's opening by 27%.

Finally, the French-speaking region of Switzerland saw the film take a mighty $518,389 (SFR764,106), including previews, since opening on Wednesday Nov 20, with $422,681 (SFR623,032) coming from the country's official four-day (Thursday-Sunday) launch weekend.

Showing on 30 screens in the French region Die Another Day scored a huge average of $17,280 over the five day start. It opens in the country's German-speaking region on Nov 28.

Other European openings coming up for Die Another Day include Belgium (Nov 27), Austria, Germany and Sweden (all Nov 28), and Finland (Nov 29). Russia receives the film on Dec 12, followed by the Netherlands (Jan 9), Denmark (Jan 24), Norway (Jan 31) and finally Italy (Feb 28, 2003).
