Universal's Love Actually overtook The Matrix Revolutions at the top of the Italian charts in itsfirst international opening, grossing $2.3m from 322 sites and tracking 11%ahead of Bridget Jones's Diary.

In Portugal, Richard Curtis' romantic comedy took $330,000from 60 theatres for second place. There it is tracking 43% ahead of NottingHill.

In all, Love Actually grossed $2.6m internationally over the weekend. It opens in 15countries next weekend including Germany, Spain and the UK.

Universal's Intolerable Cruelty added $4.8m from 2,200 sites in 24countries at the weekend, raising its international cumulative score to $54.4mand breaking through the $50m barrier.

In Australia, the Joel Coen-directed black comedy, which pairs GeorgeClooney and Catherine Zeta Jones, finished third on $415,000 from 205, dropping33% for a $4.8m running total in its fourth week.

It finished fourth in its fourth weekend in the UK, dropping 17%on $960,000 from 329 for a strong $9.6m total to date.

Among otherUniversal titles overseas, American Wedding opened fourth in Korea on $400,000 from90. This was 18% behind its predecessor American Pie 2 but 8% bigger than the local opening for2 Fast 2 Furious.There are still eight countries to go.
