Julia Brown has been appointed head of marketing at UGC Cinemas in the UK and Ireland. She will head up a team of eight and will report to Mike Thomson, the commercial director.

Brown will map out the marketing strategy and look at all existing marketing tools for the next stages of UGC's development. She will also be responsible for sales.

Her first major project will be the re-launch of the Dublin cinema, which will be expanding from nine screens to 17. It will open at the end of November.

UGC Cinemas has 43 outlets throughout the UK and Ireland.

Brown's CV includes five years as marketing controller for Safeway marketing director for Total Home Entertainment (THE) for two years and more recently as strategy director for Wheel, a new media agency, where she spent four years.
