The Legend Of Zorro cut a swath through the international marketplaceover the weekend as it launched on an estimated $27m on 6,140 prints in 50countries.

Handled in most territoriesthrough Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI), which licensed rightsfrom the picture's co-financier Spyglass Entertainment, the adventure sequelopened top in 40 markets and enjoyed a clean sweep in Latin America.

The highlights were numberone launches in France on $5.8m on 696 screens that was 27% better than thelaunch of The Mask Of Zorro,Spain on $2.8m on 550 that was 5% better than the original, $1.4m in Mexico on500 that was 23% better than Mask,and a $1.4m debut in China on 250.

Zorro wielded his mighty sword in the UK and grossed $3.3mincluding previews on 485 in a result that fared 32% better than the originalwithout previews, however it had to settle for third place behind Wallace& Gromit and Nanny McPhee.

The picture launched insecond place in Germany on $1.7m on 694, and opened in third place in Italy on$1.2m on 500. There were more first place launches in South Korea on $1.1m on160 and Brazil on $1m on 319, as well as Russia on $1m on 301.

SPRI executives reported topplace debuts in Switzerland, Holland, Sweden and Austria, and expect strongholds in many territories as the All Saints Day holidays kick in this week.Executives will be looking to establish solid grosses before Harry PotterAnd The Goblet Of Fire opens inthree weeks' time.

Meanwhile DreamWorksAnimation's Wallace & Gromitis fast approaching $100m through UIP following a $13.9m weekend haul thatraised the international running total to $91.8m.

The family title remainedtop in the UK on $6.5m for a magnificent $45.5m cumulative total, and has nowpassed the $44m UK lifetime gross of Chicken Run.

Wallace & Gromit added $2.2m for $9.2m in France and $1m for $6.1m inGermany.

Warner Brothers PicturesInternational (WBPI) reported another strong weekend for Tim Burton's CorpseBride as the animated romp grossed $10.5mfrom approximately 2,400 prints in 26 markets and raised the running total to$27.4m.

The picture opened in Italyon $1.2m from 220 prints for a contested third place with The Legend OfZorro, while Spain generated $1.1mfrom 155 prints in the opening weekend and was expected to rank second.

Strong second weekend holdssaw Corpse Bride add $2.3m from455 prints in France for $6m after two weekends, $1.6m from 404 UK sites for$5.6m, $1.1m from 360 screens in Japan for $3.9m, and $1.1m from 300 in Mexicofor $3.5m. It added $362,000 from 121 in Brazil for $1m.

Working Title's NannyMcPhee added a superb $5.3m throughUIP in its second weekend in the UK to rank second on $9.7m. The children'spicture opens throughout the rest of the world in 2006.

Universal's action title Doomlaunched into action in a furthernine territories and grossed $4m from 1,043 sites in 19 for an early $5.7minternational cumulative total through UIP.

The highlight was a $1.1mnumber one Australian debut from 169 sites that captured 20% market share.

Universal's Pride &Prejudice had no new launches, butstill added $2.7m from 926 sites for $34.2m.

Buena Vista International'sthriller Flightplan continued itssteady course with a further $6.3m for more than $31m through all its marketsto date.

The picture opened top inBelgium on $580,000 and stayed top in Germany on $2.6m in its second weekendfor a $7.7m running total.

Flightplan ranks second in Brazil on $350,000 for $1.1m aftertwo, and has grossed $8m in Mexico where it ranks third after five.

Saw II recorded two impressive major market debuts through Lions Gate Films International, including a top five $3.8m UK launch in 305 theatres that was the studio's biggest ever in the market, and $750,000 in 67 in Japan over two days.

Upcoming releases for the horror sequel, which stormed to the top of the North American charts on an estimated $30.5m over the weekend, are scheduled for Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, among other markets.

Fox International had nomajor launches this weekend and did not report figures.
