The Cannes festival filled out its special, out-of competition screenings programme with two heavyweight additions, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones and Brian De Palma's Cannes-set thriller Femme Fatale.

George Lucas's Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones will be shown twice in the Salle Bunuel on the second day of the festival, Thursday 16 May, simultaneous with its US release.

Brian De Palma's Femme Fatale will in turn receive a midnight screening on the last Saturday (May 25) in the Grand Theatre Lumiere. A Cannes-set thriller, it features cameos from festival president Gilles Jacob and jury-member Regis Wargnier and, appropriately enough, features a heist that takes place during the closing night of the festival.

The festival elaborated on its plans to give the full red-carpet treatment to Martin Scorsese, who will be in town on Monday (May 20) in a slot titled An Hour With Martin Scorsese. He will pay tribute to the recently departed Billy Wilder and present some 20 minutes of Gangs Of New York. Scorsese is expected to be accompanied by the film's stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Cameron Diaz.

And it re-affirmed plans to give a special screening to Kiyu Yoshida's Women In The Mirror (Kagami No Onnatachi), a film on Hiroshima, which barely rated as a footnote at the Paris press conference last month.
