The Cannes Film Festival has announced its schedule for the closing weekend of May 22 and 23.

As previously reported, the awards ceremony will be moved from its traditional slot on Sunday to Saturday evening.

Following the prizes, a premiere screening will be held although it is not yet known what the film will be.

A fireworks show will be put on to usher in the awards party which will end with a live concert. Again, the identity of the act is a secret for now.

Screenings of all award winning films will be put on at the Palais throughout the evening. On Sunday, an ensemble of selected films - from the official competition to Un Certain Regard, Cinefondation and shorts - will be screened.

The Closing night soiree will be entirely devoted to the film that wins the Palme d'Or with a screening of the winner shown at the Palais along with a montage of the best moments of Cannes 2004.

In a statement, organisers said the new programme would "render the end of the event more dynamic to the satisfaction of all different kinds of audiences."
