The Cannes Festival's Un Certain Regard sidebar is taking on the allure and scale of a fully-fledged festival to rival discovery events like Locarno or Rotterdam.

The Cannes selectors today completed their selection with the addition of Argentinian director Pablo Reyero's La Cruz Del Sur (sold by F For Film). Previously announced additions included Los Soldados De Salamina by Spanish director David Trueba (handled by Lolafilms) and Crimson Gold by Iranian Jafar Panahi (sold by Celluloid Dreams) which will close the section.

The section will award three "Un Certain Regard - Altadis" prizes; a grand prize and two new prizes, the purpose of which will be determined by the jury according to the films they have seen.

The Un Certain Regard jury will be headed by Mauritanean director Abderrahmane Sissako with Carole Laure as vice president. The other jurors are journalists Geoff Andrew (UK), Alexis Campion (France), Remi Don Carl (France), Christine Masson (France) and festival programmers Jannike Ahlund (Gothenberg) and Pierre Todeschini (Annecy festival of Italian cinema).
