Start-up Chineseproducer-distributor China Vision Group has retained global law firm Melveny& Myers (OMM) as part of its push into international production.

Founded by producer Jimmy Wuand former banker Jane Shao, Beijing-based China Vision plans to set upinternational co-productions as well as English language remakes of Chinesefilms.

The company has raisedfinance from private equity and venture capital sources in the US and Hong Kongand is currently scouting for suitable projects. OMM will represent the companyin subsequent negotiations.

Films co-produced withmainland Chinese production companies can bypass China's quota system and bereleased in the territory as domestic films.

China Vision debut production,Zhang Yibai's Curiosity Kills The Cat, starring Hu Jun, Carina Lau and Song Jia, was released on 60 screensin China in mid-October. Following strong word-of-mouth, the release waswidened to 200 screens and cinemas have booked the film to play until the endof the year.

Golden Network Asia ishandling international sales on the film and is close to signing deals forTaiwan and Thailand. China Vision is distributing in China in association withHuaxia.
