UIP Korea has named Douglas Lee to serve as its new general manager, following the retirement of HG Lee (Lee Hong-Geun), manager of the Korean branch since 1991. Lee, a Korean who has lived most of his life overseas, worked previously in Singapore as the marketing director for UIP's Asian operations.

Former general manager HG Lee originally expressed his desire to retire in February, but was persuaded to see through the Korean release of blockbusters The Mummy Returns and Jurassic Park III. At present, those two titles represent the 4th and 9th top-grossing releases of the year, respectively.

UIP has remained a strong player in the Korean market ever since it became the first foreign studio to directly distribute into Korea in 1988.

In mid 2001, UIP had released six films, placing it sixth in the distributor rankings with a market share of 8.2%
