Breck Eisner hassigned to direct Universal Pictures' remake of the horror classic CreatureFrom The Black Lagoon.

Gary Ross willproduce through his Larger Than Life production company and has written a draftscreenplay, which may not end up as the final version.

Ross' fatherArthur A Ross wrote the screenplay to the 1954 original, in which Gill Manterrorised archaeologists in the Amazon.

Studio sourcessaid yesterday the remake will be a "smart, scientific update" and will shootin the US and either central or South America.

Universal'spresident of production Donna Langley and vice president of production JeffKirschenbaum will oversee the project for the studio.

Eisner is represented by CAAand Karl Austen of Jackoway, Tyerman, Wertheimer.
