Montreal-based distributor Equinox Entertainment has appointed industry veteran Yves Dion to the position of vice-president of distribution.

Dion was formerly president of Blackwatch Releasing and prior to that was president of Malofilm Distribution for 14 years.

Dion' first official deal saw Equinox pick up Canadian rights to Deborah Day's Expecting, a local comedy which debuted at the 2002 Montreal World Film Festival. The company also appointed Karene Rietschin to handle communications for Quebec.

Equinox, the filmed entertainment division of Compagnie France Film, is enjoying a spectacular season as the distributor of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which has earned $5m in 24 days on release.

Upcoming Equinox releases include Edoardo Ponti's Between Strangers, featuring Sophia Loren, and Jean-Claude Lord's Christmas fantasy Station Nord
