Exception, formerly Wild Bunch, has been appointed the international sales agent for Berlin Competition entry Alexandra's Project, written and directed by Rolf de Heer.

Helen Buday and Gary Sweet star in the film, which explores psycho-sexual politics in marriage.

"The movie represents a challenging title with a touch of provocation which totally fits with the Exception identity all over the world and we are delighted to associate our name with Rolf de Heer's," said head of sales Carole Baraton.

Julie Ryan, who produced the film alongside de Heer, expressed her delight with the deal, citing Exception's reputation for handling quality films that are challenging and exciting and made by individualist directors.

Alexandra's Project is the first to be made under the Fandango Australia banner launched last year and represents local distributor Palace Films' biggest ever financial commitment to an Australian film.

"It is a gripping and provocative script, destined to be Rolf's most controversial film since Bad Boy Bubby," said executive producer Antonio Zeccola said at the time."Just reading it is like sitting with a ticking bomb - in your underwear."
