International sales veteran John Fremes has been named head of international at Nu Image/Millennium Films, joining the company’s executive team at this week’s European Film Market in Berlin.

Fremes reports directly to company principals Avi Lerner and Trevor Short. Roy Matalon, appointed president of international sales and distribution at Nu Image last August, remains in that position but now reports to Fremes.

Fremes will work alongside Mark Gill, recently installed president of Nu Image production arm Millennium, overseeing the international sales, distribution and marketing of all Millennium-produced projects.

Recently, Fremes was president of worldwide distribution at Essential Entertainment, overseeing international sales, distribution and business affairs on titles such as Barney’s Version and The Expatriate. Before that he was president of Element Films International.

Lerner and Short said: “John’s reputation and relationships in the international arena are a tremendous asset. He brings a wealth of experience and will continue to deliver the quality films buyers have trusted and counted on for the last 25 years from Nu Image and Millennium.”

Fremes added: “I look forward to working with Avi, Trevor, Mark and the entire Nu Image/Millennium Films team. They continue to deliver an incredibly strong slate of commercially driven action fare which buyers world-wide have come to rely on.”

Nu Image/Millennium’s Berlin slate includes Lovelace, The Iceman, Killing Season and The Expendables 2.
