The world premiere of Quanan Wang’s Apart Together (Tuan Yuan) will open the Berlinale’s 60th edition on February 11, while Yoji Yamada’s About Her Brother (Otouto) (pictured) will close the festival on February 20.

Wang, one of the leading Chinese auteur film-makers, was previously at Berlin with Tuya’s Marriage (Tuya De Hun Shi) in 2007, when he won the Golden Bear and the Ecumenical Jury prize. Apart Together is an epic love story set against the tragedy of a divided country. It follows a solider who is reunited with his long lost love after returning to China many years after fleeing Mao Tse-tung’s troops.

Yamada’s About Her Brother is screening out of competition and will be shown after the awards ceremony on February 20. He has been a guest of the Berlinale on six occasions over the years, most recently with Our Mother (Kabei) in Official Competition in 2008.
