Fortissimo Films has picked up Tian Zhuangzhuang’s The Warrior And The Wolf and Indian documentary Children Of The Pyre on the eve of the Cannes market.

The company has also unveiled details of a co-production with actress Michelle Yeoh.

Fortissimo has taken all rights outside the US and Asia to The Warrior And The Wolf, an action fantasy starring Maggie Q. Bill Kong produced the film which is scheduled to release this autumn.

Directed by Rajesh S. Jala, Children Of The Pyre follows seven children who work at the world’s biggest crematorium in Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges.

Although still reeling from the unexpected death of co-founder Wouter Barendrecht, Fortissimo has a strong Cannes slate including three titles in official selection – Face, Nymph and Air Doll – along with Director’s Fortnight title Daniel & Ana.

“Obviously we’re missing Wouter and this will be a difficult market for us – but this continues to be a vibrant company with a strong management and operations team,” co-chairman Michael Werner told Screen.

Werner added that the company is also continuing to produce certain projects and is in talks with Yeoh about co-producing an as-yet-untitled English-language project which will partially shoot in Malaysia from early next year.
