EXCLUSIVE: Colt 45 writer Fathi Beddiar to direct Edward Bunker crime-thriller.

Colt 45 writer Fathi Beddiar and former Celluloid Dreams sales executive Annick Mahnert have optioned the rights to cult writer and actor Edward Bunker’s crime novel Stark.

Beddiar will make his directorial debut on the English-language, LA-set project, which he has also adapted. Annick Mahnert is producing.

Originally set in the 1960’s, Beddiar’s moder-day adaptation of the posthumously published novel will follow a DEA Task Force informant who goes rogue. Beddiar researched the story in LA with local police agencies.

Former career criminal Bunker, who played Mr Blue in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, wrote novels No Beast So Fierce, which inspired Dustin Hoffman’s Straight Time, and Animal Factory, adapted by Steve Buscemi.

Beddiar’s anticipated action-thriller Colt 45, from director Fabrice Du Welz and The Artist producer Thomas Langmann, is currently in post-production.

Bunker’s estate is represented by Jeanne Field from Windfall Management. Beddiar is represented by Rosalie Cimino at UBBA.
