The Nantucket Film Festival has sealed a partnership with The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences around the Ciné Institute of Haiti and the Nantucket Film Festival Teen Filmmaking programme.
The organisations have joined together to promote a young filmmaker outreach scheme between Ciné students and the local Nantucket Teen View participants.
Oscar-winning filmmakersn and Sean Fine through the Academy’s Visiting Artists programme will attend Nantucket Film Festival to present their Oscar winning short film Inocente [pictured] and their current release Life According To Sam and lead a roundtable discussion with the Ciné and Nantucket student filmmakers about the craft of documentary filmmaking.
In addition to the Academy/NFF/Ciné programme, students from both islands will present projects from their respective courses this past year and will engage in a conversation moderated by Ben Stiller, a long-time supporter of the Ciné Institute and the Nantucket Film Festival.
“The Academy continues to expand its Visiting Artist Program, and the Nantucket Film Festival created a perfect opportunity for a partnership,” said New York programme director of the Academy Patrick Harrison.
Nantucket Film Festival director Mystelle Brabbée added: “The Nantucket community will have the ability to witness the extraordinary enthusiasm that these young filmmakers have for telling the stories of their islands.”
At this year’s festival Glenn Close will present David O Russell with the Screenwriting Tribute Award on Saturday [18].
Russell, Mariel Hemingway and Barbara Kopple are this year’s participants at the In Their Shoes… programme moderated by TV host Chris Mathews.
The festival is scheduled to run from Jun 26-30.
