On Pictures, the new distributor-producer launched bySpanish media conglom the Zeta Group, has picked up distribution rights inSpain to director Juanma Bajo Ulloa's Fragil.

The film marks the return of Bajo Ulloa, whose award-winningdebuts Butterfly Wings and TheDead Mother were followed by commercial boxoffice hit Airbag (1997).

Screening this week in both the International Film Festivalof El Cairo and the International Film Festival of Catalunya (Sitges), Fragil is a romantic fable about unrequited love shot inSpanish and English. Spain's Grupo Pi is handling international sales onthe film, which On Pictures plans to release early next year.

Fragil marks On Pictures' second acquisition after itsAFM pick-up of Hotel Rwanda. Plans forthe new company envision releasing five to six films next year and doublingthat number in 2006, confirms head of film and video Gerardo Silva. Featurefilms out of the company's production arm likely won't crank upuntil 2006.

On Pictures' general manager is Agustin Vitorica.Other executives include head of acquisitions Elisa Martin de Blas, TV salesdirector Alberto Blanco and director of marketing Juan Morali.

The media group Zeta was previously behind AurumProducciones, the Spanish distributor bought out last May by Alliance Atlantisfor an estimated $54m.
