France's ARP has picked uplocal rights to star-studded romantic comedy Queens (Reinas) fromFortissimo Film Sales. The deal was struck over the phone on the eve of theAFM.

The Euros4.5m film, whichcompleted its principal photography last month, is the first Spanish-languagefilm to be handled by Fortissimo. It was produced by Warner Bros' localproduction division and is directed by Boca A Boca director Manuel GomezPereira. Warner will release it in Spain and Italy in July 2005.

The film is the story ofSpain's first gay wedding. Marisa Paredes, Carmen Maura, Mercedes Sampietro,Veronica Forque and Bettiana Blum star across up-and-coming young actors likeUnax Ugalde and Gustavo Salmeron as the mothers (and the real queens of thetitle), each grappling in her own way with her gay son's wedding plans.
