Splendid Medien signed deals for German-language territories and the Benelux to four films at last month’s Toronto International Film Festival.
The new acquisitions are:
Peter Weir’s gulag escape adventure The Way Back, starring Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess and Ed Harris, which premiered at this year’s Telluride Film Festival and will be given a German theatrical release next year;
Finnish director Jalmari Helander’s feature debut Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale which had its world premiere on Locarno’s Piazza Grande in August and is being handled internationally by Kinology. Splendid will release the crazy comedy in Germany this Christmas;
Guy Moshe’s action fantasy Bunraku, starring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson, which is being handled internationally by IM Global and premiered in Toronto’s Midnight Madness sidebar;
and
Korean Lee Jeong-beom’s second feature The Man From Nowhere (Ajeossi) which has been seen by over 6m cinema-goers since opening in the cinemas and is the most successful film in Korea this year.
