Italian lawyer Giovanni Galoppi has been named the new president of film promotional body Italia Cinema.

Galoppi replaces Marina Cicogna, the former film producer who had been appointed last year. Cicogna will remain in charge of artistic and promotional activities at Italia Cinema.

Galoppi is already actively involved with several state film bodies: he is a member of the Credito Cinematografico - the government committee that awards loans to Italian films - and is a board member of Cinecitta Holding, the umbrella company for the Rome studios which owns 90% of Italia Cinema.

Minority shareholders in Italia Cinema are state broadcaster Rai, national entertainment body Agis, exhibitors organisation ANEC and independent producers association API.
