Goldcrest Independent has announced deals on the two titles it has been selling at AFM - The Chosen One, a comedy starring Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi and Cass, the UK hooligan drama starring Nonso Anozie and Nathalie Press.

Sales chief Pierre Weisbein said that Seville Pictures bought The Chosen One for Canada, Euro TV for France, Contender for the UK, Quality Films for Brazil, Flashstar/New Star for Brazil and Revolution for eastern Europe.

Optimum Films bought UK rights to Cass, which features a host of UK actors including Linda Bassett and Leo Gregory.

'I am very happy with the response we had from a relatively flat market,' said Weisbein. 'Goldcrest is committed to bringing new films and revitalizing the brand. We will be announcing new projects for Berlin.'

Schneider also directed The Chosen One in which he plays a depressed car dealer who is approached one day by three South American shamen to announce that he is the chosen one who will restore the balance between man and nature and save the world. Currently in post-production, the film also stars Carolia Gomez, Holland Taylor and Peter Riegert and is produced by John Schneider, Joe Q Bentz, Scott Dolezal and Boon Collins.

Executive producers are David Hillary, Tim Peternel, Weisbein and Nick Quested. The film has just completed the LA leg of its shoot with location work in New York and Colombia still to come.

Jon S Baird directed and Stefan Heller produced Cass, which tells the story of Cass Pennant, the leader of England's most notorious football hooligan gang.
