The 17th Annual Gotham Awards will kick off the 2007-08 awards season on Nov 27 in their new Brooklyn digs at Steiner Studios.

Gotham Awards Tributes will go to Javier Bardem, who stars in the upcoming No Country For Old Men and Love In The Time Of Cholera, Mira Nair, who most recently directed The Namesake and is preparing Shantaram, and IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring.

Retrospectives of Nair and Bardem's work will take place in New York during November.

Nominees for the six competitive awards for Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough Actor, Breakthrough Director, Best Ensemble Cast and Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You will be announced on Oct 22.

'Independent film is New York's indigenous film culture,' IFP executive director Michelle Byrd said. 'What better way to underscore the importance of filmed entertainment in the City than by moving the Gothams on to a soundstage. Thanks to Doug Steiner, one of the chairmen of this year's gala, we were able to make that dream a reality.'

'We're elated to host the Gotham Awards here in Brooklyn, the creative capital of New York City,' Steiner Studios chairman Douglas C Steiner, said. 'Independents are a wonderful, vital part of the New York film-making scene, and we are staunch supporters of the indie community.'
