Focus Features' 21 Grams got its European campaign off to a flying start at theweekend with a $1.1m third place bow in Italy through Bim Film on 185 screens.

Theacclaimed drama was the biggest opener of the weekend and its $6,126 per-screenaverage was the second biggest in the top 20 behind The Last Samurai.

Franceand Australia will open later this week. ARP will open the film in France on anaggressive 173 screens, 34 of which will be in Paris. Germany and Spain arescheduled to open the following week.

"We're off to animpressive start," Glen Basner, Focus' head of international sales anddistribution, said. "Bim Film's aggressive campaign paid off and proved thatthis film can be released commercially in Europe."
