Filmmakers Heddy Honigmann, Gustav Deutsch and Alexander Hammid are the subject of special sidebars being staged at this year's Diagonale showcase of Austrian cinema in Graz from March 18-24, 2002.

Dutch filmmaker Honigmann will attend the festival's homage of her oeuvre, while a tribute is being dedicated to filmmaker and artist Gustav Deutsch on the premiere of his latest work Film Ist. 7-12 which will be complemented by lectures and live music acts by Deutsch.

Meanwhile, the Diagonale's retrospective this year will throw a spotlight on Alexander Hammid, who was born in the Austrian city of Linz in 1907, showing his early Czech works as well as those films made after his emigration to the USA where he now lives and works.

In addition, the "Festivals in Dialogue" sidebar will feature programmes by the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen of its competition films and a compilation of the best German music videos from the last three years, and by the French Resistances festival of French films addressing the issue of right-wing extremism in France.
