The Virgin Media Shorts Awards ceremony at the BFI was a star studded affair.

The BFI played host to the fourth annual Virgin Media Shorts Awards last night, judged by a panel including actor John Hurt and director Paul Greengrass.

The awards shortlisted 12 short films for three awards. The brand new TiVo® award went to Coasting by Federico Forcolini while the People’s Choice award went to the short animated film InaniMate directed by Micheal O’Donogue, Soulla Josephides and Ying Hui Tan. The Grand Prize went to 2:20 by Jason Wingard, which included £30,000 to make his next film with the BFI.

The evening kicked off with a champagne reception followed by the awards ceremony hosted by TV personality Danny Wallace.

Hurt was joined on the red carpet by fellow judge Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll director Mat Whitecross who brought along Jodie Whittaker, who stars in his new film Ashes. Wuthering Heights actress Kaya Scodelario, Screen Star of Tomorrow Douglas Booth and Downton Abbey actresses Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael also atttended the glitzy affair.

Each short was shown during the awards ceremony while John Hurt presented the Grand Prize to Jason Wingard and his team. The night culminated in an after party with drinking and dancing late into the night, with DJing from Paloma Faith and Rob da Bank.
