IFC First Take has partnered with Red Envelope Entertainment to take North American rights to Shane Meadows' This Is England from The Works International.

The acquisition was negotiated by IFC's Arianna Bocco and Liesl Copland at Red Envelope with Joy Wong, Head of The Works International.

The film, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and recently won the best film award at the British Independent Film Awards, will be released simultaneously in theatres and on local cable's On Demand platform in July.

IFC First Take has now released some 50 films on this day-and-date First Take banner.

'Shane is one of the strongest voices in new British cinema and his story deserves a progressive and inventive approach to its distribution,' said Tessa Ross, the head of Film4 which produced This Is England. 'IFC's day and date initiative takes us a step forward into giving audiences better access to content and we're proud to be part of this groundbreaking move.'

This Is England, which stars Thomas Turgoose and Stephen Graham, is also playing in the Spotlight section of next week's Tribeca Film Festival.
