Shwaas, a film directed by 36-year-old debutant SandeepSawant will be the official Indian entry for the Oscars.

The film is a drama about a villager, played by Arun Nalawade,who brings his ailing grandson to the town hospital, . There he learns that thechild must undergo a life-saving operation, which may leave him blind.

Shwaas bagged this year's National Award for best film.Child actor Ashwin Chitale, who played the boy about to lose his vision, alsoearned a National Award for his performance.
