Warner Bros's Alexanderheld firmly onto its number one position, with a strong screen average of$6,100 and an impressive running gross of $7,663,628. UIP's Bridget Jones:The Edge Of Reason grossed an extra $1,730,192, bringing its total to$10,885,073.

Meanwhile, UIP'sOscar-nominated picture, Ray, was unable to dislodge its competitors.The film opened on 177 screens, earning a healthy if unspectacular $593,016.

In fifth place, Rayalso trailed behind Zhang Yimou's House Of Flying Daggers, which brokeinto the box office at number four, grossing $1,110,220 for Bim Distribuzionefrom 251 screens.

Elsewhere, local release AllaLuce Del Sole, a Mafia story directed by Roberto Faenza, opened on 185screens and earned a solid $471,572 for Mikado Film.
