On a devastatingly bad weekend at the Italian box office,Cinetel, which monitors around 80% of Italian screens, reported that earningsslumped a huge 48% compared to the previous week.

There were no changes in the positions of the first ninefilms at the box office, and earnings for the top movies were meagre: UIP's The Stepford Wives registered just$149,109 from 120 screens for a screen average of $1,243. After four weeks, theNicole Kidman-Bette Midler-Glenn Close picture has earned just $2,193,026.

The weekend's only new release, AB Film's Korean picture, Tube, opened at number 12, grossing$22,363. But the action epic, about the all-out war between a subway terroristand a detective registered the weekend's second worse screen average - just$476.
