The Spanish Film Screenings of Lanzarote are gearing up for their upcoming fifth annual edition November 27-29.

The three features to be premiered in the now traditional evening gala ceremonies are Santi Amodeo's Astronautas (pictured), Ramon Barea's El Coche De Pedales and Ramon de Espana's Haz Conmigo Lo Que Quieras.

Others of the 35 new titles to be screened include Oliver Stone's Comandante, Iciar Bollain's Take My Eyes, box office hit Football Days, Dolores Picture's hot Whore, Harvey Keitel-starrer The Galindez File and Filmax Fantastic Factory entry Beyond Re-Animator.

Reflecting the interest in catalogue titles as well, the organisation has doubled the number of video screening cabins this year. The 64 buyers expected represent fewer than last year's 92, while more Spanish sellers and producers are anticipated. Screenings director Teodoro Rios emphasises that the organisation selects buyers strictly according to lists provided by the Spanish companies.

Reflecting the active acquisitions presence last year of newly invited Latin American firms, many companies from the region will attend this year's event. Yet by far the biggest presence remains European buyers, for whom the Screenings were originally conceived.

"The European market should be our primary focus," suggested Jose Maria Otero, director of the Spanish Film Institute ICAA, one of the event's sponsors alongside the Spanish Producers' Federation FAPAE, the Spanish Foreign Commerce Institute ICEX and the local governments of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.
